How Can UAE Free Zones Get Leads Through Chinese AI Referrals

How Can UAE Free Zones Get Leads Through Chinese AI Referrals featured image

UAE free zones get recommended by Chinese AI when Chinese-language sources talk about them often and recently: founders' notes on Xiaohongshu, answers on Zhihu, Chinese business media and the free zones' own Chinese pages. A founder in Shenzhen asks Doubao which Dubai free zone suits a trading company and gets three names back.

The pool of founders is real and growing. More than 1,000 Chinese companies are based in DMCC alone, up 9.4% in a year, and the UAE has issued over 14,000 Chinese business licences. The general rules for getting found in AI search in China apply to free zones too, with one extra problem: founders mostly ask about prices and rules, and those change fastest.

How do Chinese founders choose a UAE free zone?

They research in Chinese, mostly on Xiaohongshu and Zhihu, and increasingly ask an AI assistant to compare zones for their business type. A typical question to Doubao or DeepSeek asks which free zone suits a trading, e-commerce or tech company, what the licence costs and how long setup takes.

Roadshows, agents and referrals still close the deal. The AI answer decides which zones a founder considers asking about in the first place, and any zone left out has to win the founder back without that added support.

Which sources decide whether a free zone gets named?

Five kinds of sources shape the answer: founders' own posts, Q&A threads, Chinese business media, business setup agencies' articles and the zone's official Chinese pages.

Source What founders look for there Assistants that lean on it
Xiaohongshu notes from founders who moved Real costs, timelines and day-to-day experience Doubao
Zhihu answers Comparisons between zones DeepSeek, Ernie
Chinese business media Which zones Chinese companies are joining, events and new incentives All of them
WeChat articles from setup agencies and business associations Step-by-step setup guides Yuanbao
Baidu Baike and the zone's Chinese website Licences, sectors and official facts DeepSeek, Ernie

A free zone can shape every source one way or another. Its own Chinese site and Baidu Baike entry, an official WeChat account, Zhihu answers from its own team, founders it encourages to post, and the coverage its events produce all feed the answer.

How do free zone price changes affect AI answers?

Assistants fall behind on them fastest, because prices, packages and regulations are the most time-sensitive topics they handle. In a study of 160,860 citations from Chinese assistants, a mention of a time-sensitive topic, such as prices, events, or regulations, lost half its influence in about 39 days, compared with about 60 days across all topics.

That hits free zones harder than most, because packages, promotions and visa rules change often. When the official update exists only in English or in a PDF, the assistant fills the gap with whatever it can find in Chinese, often an older article from two pricing cycles ago. A founder who arrives expecting last year's fee makes the first conversation harder for your sales team.

How can a free zone get recommended by Chinese AI?

Publish your current facts in Chinese, get founders and media talking about you, answer the comparison questions, and check what the assistants say every month.

1. Publish current packages and rules in Chinese

Put licence types, package prices, visa allocations, and setup timelines on your own site in Simplified Chinese, with the last-updated date on the page. Update it the same week anything changes, and keep your Baidu Baike entry in line with it. DeepSeek and Ernie give official sources real weight, and a free zone is about as official as a source gets.

2. Get founders talking on Xiaohongshu

Founders trust founders. The companies already in your zone are your most credible content, and a Xiaohongshu note from a Chinese founder who moved last year will outweigh any brochure. We saw this on the China roadshows we ran for our client DMCC: Xiaohongshu ads drove 29% of all registrations, cost per lead fell 37% and the first campaign brought in more private messages than the team could answer.

3. Answer the comparison questions on Zhihu

Chinese founders ask Zhihu which UAE free zone suits their business, and DeepSeek reads the answers. Answer those questions with facts a founder can check, and be fair about where another zone is the better fit. Readers and assistants both trust answers that admit trade-offs. The Zhihu account we set up for our client DMCC in 2020 drew almost 40,000 reads in under eight months, and its best Q&A page alone brought in more than 8,000 visits.

4. Turn every roadshow into coverage that lasts

A roadshow in Shanghai or Shenzhen produces a burst of Chinese media coverage that fades within two months. Plan the follow-up before the event: WeChat articles, founder stories on Xiaohongshu and Zhihu answers in the weeks after, so coverage keeps landing until the next roadshow.

5. Check the answers every month

Ask Doubao, Qwen, DeepSeek and Yuanbao, in Chinese, which UAE free zone suits a trading company, a tech start-up and an e-commerce business, on both the app and the web. Record which zones they name, what they say about yours and which sources they cite, then fix the sources behind any answer that's wrong.

Which free zone does Chinese AI recommend today?

Ask Doubao, in Chinese, which UAE free zone a Chinese trading company should choose. If your zone isn't named, or it's named with last year's prices, the founders you want are hearing someone else's pitch first.

We've run China campaigns for DMCC and know how Chinese founders research the move. Our China team can help you see how leading Chinese assistants describe your free zone, which zones they name instead, and which sources they rely on. Talk to our China team about your free zone.
